Information about Jennifer - Ballarat tutor
This is how 2 referees rated Jennifer:
I am a professional editor, an English tutor, admin assistant/VA and a creative fiction writer. I love the English language and find great joy in helping others to enjoy it too. In April 2018, I started an online creative writing group for writers of all abilities and genres, as a way to connect with other writers and remove some of the isolation and solitude of being a writer.
I spend my spare time ballroom dancing and writing fantasy fiction with my husband who shares these passions. I love books and films, particularly in fantasy fiction, sci-fi and crime fiction genres. I am currently working on a series of fantasy novels which I hope to publish within the next two years. I would love to travel the world with my fiance and spend my time writing. I have a passion for pre-modern architecture, history and culture.
I specialise in Creative Writing and Writing Development.
I have been tutoring English since 2012. I was a study mentor for two years at La Trobe University and assisted with the English as a Second Language program at Chisholm College, La Trobe University.
Currently, my tutoring clients range from prep to year 10.
I mainly work in the Bacchus Marsh, Ballarat and Daylesford areas.
My approach to editing and tutoring are very similar. I like to be a gentle guiding hand and treat each negative with a positive outlook, eg. incorrect sentence structure - 'how could we improve this' NOT 'this is wrong'.
When working with kids I tend to use word cards or games, and, in regards to spelling, will encourage the child to self-assess whether they have spelt the word correctly.
With older students, I find that allowing them to set their own goals and providing them with action steps is a very useful tool in helping them to improve.
I have no set method of tutoring and will change and adapt to my student and their best method of learning.
