Personal Description:

I am an experienced qualified primary school teacher, having taught at all primary levels. I am currently working in a private tutoring centre so have extensive experience in the tutoring field. I have a good rapport with children and relate well to them.

Tuition Experience:

I have taught at all primary school levels from prep. to grade six in Victorian schools and more recently at a private tutoring centre with a maximum ratio of one to four children. I specialise in literacy and numeracy. My literacy skills are of a high standard and I have a sound understanding of the English language. My numeracy skills are also of a high standard. However, I have the knowledge and understanding to work at the children's level in order to explain to them how to approach problems and solve them.

Tutoring Approach:

I am a strong believer in a "doing" learning environment, making use of concrete materials especially in the early years where children have not yet reached formal operations where they are able to work in abstract. I encourage the use of all the senses. There is not always a right or wrong way to approach a problem so I endeavour to ascertain what works for each particular child. Children learn in different ways so I spend the time getting to know the child in order to find the most effective way to teach him/her, while building a relationship. Without a relationship, there is no learning. I endeavour to provide experiences for the child in order for him/her to understand the processes so ultimately he/she is able to apply what he has learnt to other situations and problems.
