Personal Description:
Yohane-Liam is a violinist, multi-instrumentalist and composer who performs in styles ranging from classical to jazz and contemporary music as a live and session musician. Experienced in both classical and improvisational performance, he plays large events and festivals throughout the UK, and has written live arrangements for audiences ranging from 5-15,000 people, including 2 orchestrations played in the Royal Albert Hall (once in 2023 and a return in 2024).
He grew up playing in a variety of ensembles including gaining a place in the LSSO before studying a BMus in music at Newcastle University from 2015-2019, during which time he was principle violinist of the chamber orchestra and first violin in a quartet, besides leading various other music groups in a wide range of styles. Afterwards, Yohane developed his arrangement and orchestration skills as an intern in the classical department of a large West London parish church before graduating from a masters in theology continuing he research on church music in the UK.
Day to day Yohane is a performing musician with most of his work using the violin (his primary instrument) or the drums and piano.
Tutoring Experience:
I teach most age groups including privately with adults and in a high school setting. In each lesson for young beginners to casual adult professionals we'll look at essential technique, listening, theory and musicianship so that each student is set up to practice and develop with confidence.
Tutoring Approach:
My role as a teacher is to show students how to practice well throughout the week so that they can reach their full potential and experience the joys of sustained improvement at each lesson. In this way students get to develop skills in this area that will carry over to the rest of their lives.
As somebody who grew up learning music in an area with little connection to the wider world of music education I also make sure my students are informed and prepared to be able to access wider performance opportunities that will accelerate their learning, for example, by linking them to appropriate ensembles and music hubs they are ready to join.
Each lesson we will look at technique, aural and theory skills and musical expression in a way that allows the student to enjoy the music making process as well as preparing for any exams they may want to take. As someone with 8 distinctions in the violin from ABRSM grade 1-8 I know what it takes to arrive to exams fully prepared to succeed.
