Personal Description:

I am a professional Session Guitarist, with over ten years of industry experience.

Having played all over the world with various live acts, my love for inspiring young musicians has grown over the years.

This has lead me to take up guitar tuition as a central part of my work within the music industry.

Alongside teaching, I currently play in function bands, backing bands for UK artists, mentor young musicians and undertake studio/sync work.

Tutoring Experience:

I have five years of experience as a private guitar tutor, giving lessons in a one-to-one format. This experience has been extremely beneficial, and has certainly informed the teaching methodology I use today.

Working in a one-to-one environment has taught me the importance of creating a personalised experience for one's students; treating every pupil as an individual musician, and ensuring that no two lessons are quite the same.

I have experience in group tuition as well. I worked for Rocksteady Music School - as one of their peripatetic "Band Leaders". This involved working in seven local schools on a weekly basis, teaching groups of pupils how to work together to learn and perform a song every term.

This job taught me to be adaptable as a teacher, and to keep students engaged and passionate about the task at hand; performing music!

Tutoring Approach:

I work on a one-to-one basis with my students, either online via Zoom/Skype, or in person.

My approach to teaching begins with building a strong relationship with my students. Finding out their passions, interests and goals; in other words, what makes them tick! I aim to create a relaxed and non-judgemental atmosphere in my lessons. I find that being encouraging and using humour in my lessons helps put my students at ease, which is conducive to a productive and positive experience.

Having established a teacher-student relationship and an effective learning environment, I am able to tailor my lesson content around the interests of each individual student. My lessons are followed up with weekly personalised eBooks, to help my students practise. These are filled with TABS, sheet music, backing tracks, and lesson notes.

The effort I put into creating a truly personalised experience allows my students to reach their playing goals, and enjoy the freedom of creative expression.
