Personal Description:

I am a newly qualified Music Therapist. I am experienced in teaching children of all ages. As a passionate music educator, my goal is to motivate students to explore their interest in music, and to develop their musical expression and sensitivity.

I have a DBS check. I also have a broad understanding of developmental psychology and special education, which I believe enhances my practice, as my degree is in Music Therapy.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching piano for seven years. In the meantime, I obtained a teacher qualification (Post-graduation Diploma of Education) at Chinese University of Hong Kong. I have experience in teaching primary level school children and manage to cater variable needs from different children.

In addition, I was awarded numerous prizes in piano competitions in Hong Kong. I worked as a private piano tutor providing lessons to children of all ages. I am particularly good at teaching children to increase their motivation of learning. I am also considerate and caring enough to get along with children.

Tutoring Approach:

A correct posture is a key to playing the piano, so at the beginning stage, I focus on teaching pupils to establish a solid foundation of posture and fingering. As I believe the early habits influence profoundly to the subsequent learning. For the young students, I can also provide fun activities with music which is appropriate for young children in the sense of developing their musical interest.

Apart from teaching about basic techniques, I emphasize on developing student's musical and aesthetical sense. I would give guidance to the pupils to be aware of their tone colour and the shape of the musical phrase. Also, I encourage students to use their imagination, to tell a story through music. I would draw an analogy to explain (i.e. we use different tones and volume to speak in order to express our emotions, in the same way when we are playing on the piano). This requires pupils to be sensitive to what they played, so as to develop their creativity and all-rounded musicianship.
