Personal Description:

I am a qualified Music Therapist (HCPC registered). I am experienced in teaching students of all ages. My goal is to motivate students to explore their interest in music, and to develop their musical expression and sensitivity.

As a passionate pianist, I got 94/100 (distinction) in the LTCL exam. In addition, I was awarded prizes in piano competitions in Hong Kong. Apart from being a solo performer, I am also experienced in playing piano accompaniment for choirs and instruments in concerts and examinations.

I have a DBS check. I also have a broad understanding of developmental psychology and special education, which I believe enhances my practice, as my degree is in Music Therapy.

*Cancellation policy: please give at least 48 hours notice if you are not able to attend the lesson. The full price may be charged if the lesson is cancelled within less than 48 hours and cannot be rescheduled.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching piano for 13 years. In the meantime, I obtained a teacher qualification (Post-graduation Diploma of Education) at Chinese University of Hong Kong. I have experience in teaching primary level school children and manage to cater to the variable needs of different children.

Tutoring Approach:

At the beginning stage, I focus on teaching pupils to establish a solid foundation of posture and fingering. As I believe the early habits influence profoundly to the subsequent learning. I aim to provide fun and musical activities which is appropriate for young children in the sense of developing their musical interest. For older children/ adult learners, my approach is gentle and relaxed. I would give clear guidance to my pupils how to practice in order to develop correct piano playing techniques.

Apart from teaching about basic techniques, I emphasize on developing student's musical and aesthetical sense, such as listening carefully to the tone colour and the shape of the musical phrase. I believe learning piano requires pupils to be sensitive to what they played, so as to develop their creativity and all-rounded musicianship. It would be a challenging but also rewarding experience, and I am a positive teacher to be with my pupils to go through this journey.
