I am a newly qualified Music Therapist (HCPC registered). I am experienced in teaching students of all ages. My goal is to motivate students to explore their interest in music, and to develop their musical expression and sensitivity.
As a passionate pianist, I got 94/100 (distinction) in the LTCL exam. In addition, I was awarded numerous prizes in piano competitions in Hong Kong. Apart from being a solo performer, I am also experienced in playing piano accompaniment for choirs and instruments in concerts and examinations.
I have a DBS check. I also have a broad understanding of developmental psychology and special education, which I believe enhances my practice, as my degree is in Music Therapy.
*I am able to travel to student's place with an extra £5-8 for the travelling fee.
*Cancellation policy: please give at least 24 hours notice if you are not able to attend the lesson. The full price may be charged if the lesson is cancelled within less than 24 hours and cannot be rescheduled.
I have been teaching piano for eight years. In the meantime, I obtained a teacher qualification (Post-graduation Diploma of Education) at Chinese University of Hong Kong. I have experience in teaching primary level school children and manage to cater variable needs from different children.
At the beginning stage, I focus on teaching pupils to establish a solid foundation of posture and fingering. As I believe the early habits influence profoundly to the subsequent learning. I aim to provide fun and musical activities which is appropriate for young children in the sense of developing their musical interest. For adult learners, my approach is gentle and relaxed, which allow students to learn and build up basic skills naturally.
Apart from teaching about basic techniques, I emphasize on developing student's musical and aesthetical sense. I would give guidance to the pupils to be aware of their tone colour and the shape of the musical phrase. Also, I encourage students to use their imagination, to tell a story through music. I would draw an analogy to explain (i.e. we use different tones and volume to speak in order to express our emotions, in the same way when we are playing on the piano). This requires pupils to be sensitive to what they played, so as to develop their creativity and all-rounded musicianship.
