Personal Description:
I have taught the violin and viola in schools for over 30 years.
Tutoring Experience:
Violinist in Residence - Oundle School 1979-1981
Head of Strings at Malvern College 1981-2002 (including some years as Head of Academic Music)
Head of Strings and Assistant Director of Music at Sherborne School for Girls 2003-2013
As well as teaching the violin ad viola, I have also taught all aspects of music at GCSE, A level and the International Baccalaureate, specialising in composing. I am also an experienced pianist and accompanist.
I was appointed on to the pool of teachers at Hestercombe Centre for Young Musicians, based at Hestercombe House, Taunton.
Tutoring Approach:
I am not dogmatic in my approach to teaching. Although classically trained, I am happy to include all sorts of different styles into my teaching including folk styles and the Blues from an early stage. I am not 'hooked' on exams, and certainly do not feel happy jumping straight from one grade to the next! I am comfortable teaching at all levels and to all ages.
