Information About Tom - Jersey teacher
My name is Tom and I am 22years old. I have been playing the piano from the age of 9 years old. I play and teach many styles of music such as pop, blues, jazz and classical.
In recent years I have gained valuable experience playing in bands in Liverpool and have now returned to the Island to start teaching.
At the beginning of the year I joined Chordz music school based in Sand Street in St Helier to teach piano and keyboard. This is my first teaching position since completing my degree in music last year, however whilst in Liverpool I helped many singers learn the piano in order for them to be able to accompany themselves and also gained experience teaching basic music theory.
This has helped me enjoy and gain confidence to continue teaching music.
From experience I have found that when someone thinks about a piano teacher, they picture a strict, stern faced teacher forcing them to play classical music. When teaching the piano and keyboard I try to tailor my lessons to accommodate what the student wants to learn.
Many of my students prefer to learn popular music and music from the charts and this has proved a popular way to learn how to read music as it is using songs that they are familiar with and can relate to. This is a very important skill as it allows the student to progress into learning any style of music on the piano.
At Chordz we aim to put the fun into learning an instrument and so allow the student to have an element of creative control, whilst creating a friendly and relaxed learning atmosphere.
