Information About Tom - Manchester teacher

Personal Description:

Hi! I'm Tom. I am a 19 year old student based in Manchester studying at the Royal Northern College of Music. I am originally from Leeds, which is where I first found a passion for teaching and playing music. I started playing the classical guitar at age 7, and have now been playing for 12 years. From the classical guitar, I taught myself how to play the electric guitar, bass guitar, and got lessons in percussion. I have grade 8 classical guitar, with a distinction, as well as drums with distinction. As well as music, I enjoy computer science, reading, and film analysis.

Tutoring Experience:

I started teaching in 2017, when I was 14. From a young age I had the pleasure of watching my mum teach in schools and privately at home. Throughout the years watching my mum, I got a good insight into how a good teacher teaches. I started with beginners and have now taught to a grade 5 level, though I am able to teach up to grade 6. If taught correctly, by a good teacher, a student will want to practice and progress, no matter the level of expertise. I have a 100% distinction pass rate, at the time of writing this.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe the best way to teach is the best way to practice; to make sure you are always progressing. Though you have to be careful with the amount you try to learn in one go, it is important to push yourself to succeed. I teach my students in the way they feel comfortable, and begin the first lesson by finding out about how they like to learn, and then base my teaching style for them on how they respond.
