Born in Edinburgh, Tessa attended St. Mary’s Music School before gaining her Bachelor of Music degree and Masters at the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland. As a recent graduate, she studied with Maya Iwabuchi and Joseph Swensen and participated in masterclasses with IIya Gringolts, Leland Chen and Simon Fischer.

During her time at RCS, she was invited by Scottish Ensemble to perform at the Wigmore Hall as their Young Artist (2017) with guest soloist Alina Ibragimova. She also enjoyed playing with her string quartet who were chosen to represent RCS in the Cavatina Intercollegiate Chamber Music Competition.

Tessa has spent her summers attending the Aurora Music Festival (Sweden), Cividale del Friuli International Music Festival (Italy) and Stift International Music Festival (the Netherlands). These have included masterclasses with Mihaela Martin, Eszter Haffner, Christian Altenburger and Daniel Rowland. As a keen chamber music player, she has twice attended Music Works, led by the London Haydn Quartet.

As an orchestral player, Tessa has freelanced with The Scottish Festival Orchestra, Scottish Opera, Manchester Camerata and the BBC Scottish Symphony Orchestra. She has been leader of the Edinburgh Youth Orchestra, the RCS modern Ballet orchestra, the RCS opera production of Dead Man Walking by Jake Heggie and opera company Raucous Rossini touring the UK and Italy.

Tutoring Experience:

I have worked at St.Mary's Music School as a violin teaching assistant for the Saturday Morning classes as well as on the summer courses. Experienced in teaching children to adults.

Tutoring Approach:

I aim to create a relaxed and fun environment where the student develops the confidence to ask questions and experiment with their violin. I encourage their self motivation and interest gained through the lessons so they remain passionate about learning in their own private practice.
