Personal Description:
Due to the outbreak of COVID-19, I also offer Skype / Facetime online lessons.
I'm an enthusiastic, experienced piano and music theory / Mandarin teacher who has recently moved to Worcester.
Apart from classical music, I'm also into Jazz and Modern music, also played in a band, performed in festivals/concerts.
I have a BA degree in Music (Major in Piano). I teach students up to grade 8 and beyond.
Tutoring Experience:
15+ years of teaching piano and music theory.
Able to teach complete beginner or advance students of all ages.
My aim in teaching is to inspire students to become as involved in music as possible and find an interest in it that will stay with them forever. I am a musician who works well with all ages, from 5 years of age upwards, friendly and patient (you need a lot of patience to be a good teacher!!)
My strength is classical, but I can teach jazz and pop. I can also accompany for performances and ABRSM/Trinity exams for all instruments. I can teach piano for leisure or focus on graded studies.
100% success rate in ABRSM exams,80% of my pupils achieving either merit or distinction.
I'm also a native Mandarin speaker and teach Mandarin for GCSE / A level / Business purposes.
I'm looking for students who could come to my place for lessons.
Get in touch if you are interested; I look forward to hearing from you.
Tutoring Approach:
I teach students how to read and understand music from the very beginning,
so that they have the tools to practice, advance with less frustration and more satisfaction.
Great system to learn to read music.
Developing a sense of hearing/music theory.
Broad array of song choices/styles to enjoy.
I've found that many students come to me after they have passed grade 3 or 4. Most of them have a fundamental lack of basic reading/listening skills, as they were too busy trying to pass the exams. Therefore, they struggle to carry on further grades with skill and enjoyment.
My teaching system is quite different from the other exam-orientated approach. I believe there is no shortcut to fundamental music education. You have got to know your notes, play lots of songs that are AT YOUR LEVEL. The same as learning English, you've got to read many books, not just textbooks. This means you get a combination of skill, confidence, and enjoyment. If students can't learn a song by themselves, it may mean the book they use is not at their level. Therefore they couldn't turn to the next page and enjoy reading/playing. The goal is always that the student has the fundamental skills to try new songs independently. It's much more empowering and enjoyable for them. Rather than memorize a textbook song over and over for an exam. The lessons are still structured, and specific books have been specifically picked to encompass what I mentioned above.
Many of my students don't go to exams until they are in grade 3 or 4, and when they go, they are very confident and can easily get distinctions because their foundation is solid.
The most important thing about my teaching approach is … my lessons are FUN and CREATIVE, so my students will look forward to their next lesson.
Music shall be in your daily life, no matter how old you are!

We would be thrilled if you can see her the same time next week and thereafter for half an hour until you feel she is ready for a longer lesson? Thank you again! Eleanor & David.
Many thanks for your lovely comments, so pleased that Antonia enjoyed her lesson and found my tuition useful too. Look forward to your next lesson soon !!
