Personal Description:

An experienced teacher, full of enthusiasm for a wide variety of music and genres, who thrives on helping you to progress confidently and with lots of enjoyment in the direction of your musical ambitions; I’m keen that you work on technique, musicality and playing with style and expression. I play piano, harpsichord and pipe organ, sing with a choir and a small vocal ensemble and believe that a day without music is a day wasted! As well as a great deal of teaching experience, I also spent a decade as a performer, in London’s West End Theatres and with a variety of groups such as the Royal Shakespeare Company and English Touring Opera. I do also love gardening, swimming in the sea, reading and walking.

Tutoring Experience:

Extensive! From beginners to advanced (including preparation for Diplomas), I have taught in schools in East Anglia and London, at Music Centres and for county music services. Now my teaching practice is based at home, although lessons via online platforms are also possible if that is your preference. My students include those playing for their own pleasure as well as students who have gone on to make careers in music.

Tutoring Approach:

For enjoyable progress, we’ll focus on pieces you enjoy playing alongside building your technique, exploring varied repertoire and developing your performing skills. Whether you want to prepare for graded exams, record or perform for friends or relatives or are heading for a professional musical career, lessons should always include inspiration, problem-solving, positive challenge - and if we haven’t managed to laugh a few times along the way, I’m doing something wrong! Sharing the joy of music is at the heart of studying it - and effective, powerful musical communication is key. Pun intended!
