NOW TEACHING ONLINE!
I hold a Bachelor's degree in Music from the Royal Northern College of Music, and a Master's degree in Music from the Royal Welsh College of Music and Drama. I have been playing the cello for 18 years, and over that time have amassed a large amount of experience in performing in different scenarios, such as in orchestras, in ensembles for concerts and function gigs, as well as solo performance. I have also been playing the piano for around 20 years, which has been an invaluable skill to use within teaching and to aid my studies.
I have several years teaching experience, privately, with music centres, and also with the Cardiff County and Vale of Glamorgan Music Service, as well as working as a tutor for one of the music service's youth orchestras. Over the course of the past year I have greatly developed my online teaching option, finding effective ways of transferring the lessons online safely, and keeping pupils engaged.
Listening to, and performing music, has always been an important part of my everyday life, and I try to show my students more about the world of cello and piano, and the joy it can bring. I believe in the importance of a strong technical emphasis in lessons with my pupils, but also try to encourage them to play things that they enjoy, and that I can play alongside them, to nurture their natural musical abilities. I believe that if students are committed to their study of the instrument they reap far better rewards, and so I try to challenge each pupil according to their individual progress, ensuring they are always pushing themselves further.
