Personal Description:

I am an experienced Music Educator, holding a Post Graduate in Music Studies, and a Post Graduate in Education with Qualified Teacher Status.
I teach piano up to grade 8 standard and at present Music Theory to Grade 8. I use the ABRSM or Trinity Guildhall examination boards. I believe that I have the ability to motivate pupils and help them to maximize their attainment and enjoyment of learning.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 20 years classroom and private teaching experience and currently hold a a 100% pass rate in examinations. I have taught in both the Primary and Secondary sector and also have experience teaching adults.

Tutoring Approach:

Music should be for everyone and this is why I do not teach solely for examination purposes. In fact it is a core belief of mine that every pupil should experience as diverse a range of music as possible and not just focus only on examination pieces. An holistic approach to education means that every individuals' needs are met. Music lessons should be fun and enjoyable so that learning can be acheived. I believe in a personal approach. Everyone is different and learns at their own rate. The most important thing is that everyone makes progress.
However I do believe that examinations are important to secure further musical education, demonstrate progress, experience performance and boost self esteem and confidence.
I like each lesson to have an aspect of the following if possible. A warm up, technicals, listening and appraising and aural work, working towards a performance and if appropriate Music Theory. My pupils often have a small concert twice a year, at Christmas and at the Summer.
I use a variety of techniques in my teaching including the use of ICT, music media, flash cards and music games and songs.
