Information About Stephen - Tetbury teacher
This is how 2 referees rated Stephen:
I have been playing piano myself since the age of 8. I am fortunate enough to have a lovely piano studio in my garden where I not only play for pleasure but teach private students too. I’m married to Norma and together we have three JR dogs and three Ponies.
Although I have been playing for over 50 years I only came to teaching fairly recently. This was at the recommendation of one of my own teachers. Whilst I was already at grade 8 standard I felt it was important to learn how to teach and so I completed the EPTA Piano Teachers course in 2015, graduating with a merit Cert PTC. I continue with my own studies all the time and am currently working towards my ARSM diploma. I teach in two schools in Cheltenham every week, one Primary and one Secondary and have full and enhance DBS status.
One of the most important elements in learning to play an instrument in my view is to feel comfortable happy and relaxed in the company of the teacher. My studio is a welcoming place and I make it my business to ensure students feel that way so that they can pursue their personal goals in a pleasant and supportive environment. Exams can provide a great framework for learning and goal focus, but they’re not for everyone. Whatever my students want to achieve it’s my role to help them so that.
