Tutoring Approach:
Music and singing is my passion. Having sung professionally for most of my working life I cold not imagine a life without music! Singing is a great way to express emotion and have fun. I enjoy teaching all levels and age groups from beginners to professional. I teach all contemporary styles of music including musical theate. I do not teach classical singing. In 2010 I underwent a career threatning vocal operation after suffering with undiagnosed acid reflux for 15 years. I take great care in addressing vocal health and good technique within my teaching. As a professinoal performer myself I know from experience how crucial this is. So many singers perform with little or no technique and cannot sustain the stress that performing demands of the voice. I work with my students as individuals and to that end songs are often chosen by students from their own likes and dislikes. I believe each student should enjoy what they are performing and I always consider the views and opinions of my students when decisions are made on song choices. Theres is nothing worse than being made to sing something you hate! I encourage song writing with some of my students as I find it is a wonderful tool for building self confidence in singers. I also cover projection, increasing range and tone quality, breath control, sustainability as well as emotion in song and performance and mic technique. I also help singers to find their 'true voice' and work on choosing material to suit the individual.
Having also trained in Anatomy and Physiology I have a good understanding of the voice and muscles surrounding this area as well as posture. I often see students who come to me with vocal issues which ithen work on helping to correct.
