Personal Description:

I am a well-established teacher with thirty years’ experience in private piano tuition. Teaching is very important to me, and it has always been a major part of my career as a musician. I have always very much enjoyed opening the door of the world of music for pupils, and helping them develop so that they reach their musical goals, whether that is passing an exam or playing some pieces they have always wanted to play.
I teach pupils at all levels from beginner to experienced player. Lessons are given in my music room, using my fine Weber grand piano.

Tutoring Approach:

Given my long experience as a professional musician, I am able to offer a varied range of tuition which includes:
· Studying classical piano with in-depth work on piano technique and keyboard performance skills;
· Preparation for exams (all grades);
· Learning to play light/popular music which includes learning about, and playing from, chord symbols;
· Studying jazz piano, which covers development in areas including (a) learning how to improvise; (b) understanding jazz chords and how to use them; (c) learning to improvise in four important styles - blues, swing, Latin and mainstream-modern;
· Tuition for Associated Board jazz piano exams.
