Personal Description:
I have been a musician for over 35 years and a qualified school teacher for more than 20 years. I play over 20 different instruments including piano, church organ, banjo etc. but believe students learn more quickly and develop most effectively when taught by a specialist. I am therefore selective about the instruments I teach.
Over the years I have performed in a number of different bands and duos, in churches, pubs and the occasional large stage. My experience includes time as a studio session musician as well as composer and writer for live theatre.
Playing the bass guitar is my passion and in my experience specialist bass teachers are rare. SCUK therefore has been set up with bass guitarists in mind.
Relevant qualifications:
* Post graduate diploma and certificate in education (PGCE & PGDE)
* Bass grade 8
* Organ grade 8
* Music theory
Tutoring Experience:
As a qualified teacher I have taught pupils in both primary and secondary settings aged 5 and upwards. Over the years I have taught Music, Economics, IT/Computer science and Maths and have supported students in these subjects from foundational first steps to advanced level(L3 - Post 16 study).
Tutoring Approach:
I work with students of all ages and abilities. Examination study with Trinity and Rock School are possible, however not all students want to work towards examinations and that is also fine.
I believe that classical methods of musical study (Scales, theory) are just as important as learning to reproduce a popular bass line and as a result lessons are fun with skills and theory woven in.
I want students to love what they do and will therefore provide opportunities to record and perform music in order to build confidence and provide a mechanism for self reflection.
