Personal Description:
I’m Sergio Cabrera, a freelance Audio Engineer, Sound Designer, Music Producer, and Live DJ based in London, originally from Tenerife (Canary Islands, Spain). I’ve spent over 20 years developing a creative and technical foundation in music — from the early days of vinyl DJing to advanced modular synthesis and immersive audio production.
My background blends hands-on industry experience with formal training in sound engineering, modular systems, and educational practice. I hold a BSc in Audio Production (Middlesex University/SAE Institute) and a Certificate in Education & Training (EaT). I’m passionate about helping learners find clarity and confidence through sound.
Whether you're just getting started or refining your unique voice as a producer, I adapt each session to your needs. I work across tools like Ableton Live, Traktor, Reason, and modular hardware (Nifty Case), and I create a relaxed, open learning environment for students of all backgrounds.
My goal is not just to teach software or techniques — it’s to help you unlock your own creative system. Lessons can include composition, DJing, synthesis, audio journaling, sampling, or creative coaching depending on your goals.
I teach in both English and Spanish and offer sessions in-person or remotely.
Tutoring Experience:
Over 6 years of one-to-one and small group teaching in audio production, sound design, and DJ performance — both in person and online.
Delivered tailored sessions for students across a wide range of ages and skill levels, from complete beginners to working artists.
Focus on neurodivergent-friendly approaches using hands-on, sensory-based methods
Former Spanish tutor with strong communication skills in both English and Spanish
Certified with a Level 3 Certificate in Education & Training (EaT) from Community Music, London
Experience includes teaching topics such as:
Ableton Live, Reason, and Traktor for music production and DJing
Modular synthesis using compact setups (e.g… Nifty Case, Cellz, VCO, VCF, delay)
Sound journaling and improvisation
Signal flow, field recording, and creative workflows
Vinyl DJing, beatmatching, hybrid setups, and sample manipulation
Also trained students in preparing mixes, developing ear training, and experimenting with audio as personal expression or creative therapy
Tutoring Approach:
I believe every learner is unique — with their own rhythm, goals, and creative style. That’s why I begin each teaching relationship with an informal assessment or discovery session. It helps me understand where you’re at, what you’re curious about, and how you best absorb new ideas. From there, I tailor the lessons to suit your pace and vision.
My approach is hands-on and experience-based. I use tools like modular synthesis, vinyl DJing, digital software (Ableton, Reason, Traktor), and field recordings to help you connect theory with practice. Whether you’re building a track, exploring sound design, or learning how to mix, my sessions are creative, grounded, and practical.
I’ve worked for years in live performance, recording, and post-production, and I bring that real-world knowledge into every lesson. I also integrate creative exercises for those struggling with perfectionism, blockages, or fear of finishing.
Whether you’re starting from scratch or refining your workflow, my goal is to help you grow technically and creatively — without pressure, just clear progress.

Sergio's Feedback

My knowledge was minimal and we are currently learning the phonetics in a basic but active and effective approach, I'm given homework which forces me to continue my learning out of the classroom which definitely helps too.
Thanks Sergio!
I strongly recommend him to anyone wanting to learn and improve there Spanish speaking.
