Personal Description:

I’m a PhD student and practitioner studying musical theatre composition with experience performing on stage. I was successful at audition for the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama and can help students prepare for auditions, concerts and generally improve their singing as well as help prepare students for Musical Theatre Grade Exams. I specialise in Musical Theatre, Rock and Pop. I generally teach Mondays, Wednesdays, and Fridays after 4pm but can discuss other times. I accept beginners and young people. Students under 16 must be accompanied by an adult for the first lesson and can be accompanied by adults for further lessons. I am enhanced DBS checked (2022).

Tutoring Experience:

I lead rehearsals and workshops in musical theatre at theatres around the Midlands. References are available on request.

Tutoring Approach:

Sessions are one hour and combine technique and repertoire. I am student-led in terms of choosing rep but will also guide students towards songs that best suit their performance style. For technique we'll work on "proper singing" style to ensure your voice will be successful at auditions and public performance.This technique is suited to traditional and modern singing styles, the rep I work on is musical theatre, my specialist area, rock, and pop. We'll work on finding the "core" of your voice which will create a strong and distinctive performance style. We'll also work on how to act through singing, build a character, and I can advise on monologues for auditions.

If students want to take Grade Exams I can prepare them for ABRSM Singing for Musical Theatre Performance grades. We can discuss other exams but note I do not teach for classical exams focussing on rep pre 1900.
