Hello! I'm Sarah, and I am a singing/performing arts teacher based in South Wales.
I am an experienced singer and musician and have over 10 years' experience in both performing and teaching.
I started my training almost 20 years ago and hold qualifications in both classical singing and musical theatre, from ABRSM and LAMDA.
I have spent many years working as a professional singer, travelling all across the UK to perform in a variety of different venues. In addition to this, I have been involved in many stage shows, from amateur to professional productions, as both a performer and a singing teacher, director and choreographer.
However, I realised my love for teaching children and inspiring them in the creative arts and performance, and I am now a primary school teacher, specialising in the Expressive Arts. I believe that giving the children the opportunity to express themselves through music, dance, art and drama is so important!
As well as this, I have experience working as a supporting artist, and have been involved in many shows on the BBC, ITV & Netflix.
My extensive experience in being on stage, in front of a rolling camera & a teacher in the arts ensures that my pupils receive the best tuition possible.
I am still active in the arts as a performer myself, and I have recently (July 2024) won the NODA Regional Award (Wales and Ireland) for "Outstanding Comedy Performance" for my role as Doralee Rhodes in the stage musical of "9-5".
Tutoring Experience:
I have around 10 years' experience working as a teacher of the arts, starting my career teaching workshops and group sessions for shows. From this, I have since moved on to one-to-one tuition, specialising in musical theatre.
I am also a primary school teacher and offer tuition to pupils from the age of 7.
I have taught a wide variety of pupils, starting with children looking to start their journey as a performer. I offer students the opportunity to take LAMDA Musical Theatre exams. I currently have a 100% pass rate in this, with a majority of students coming out of their exams having received a Merit or Distinction.
I have also coached pupils through their Music & Drama GCSEs and A Levels, as well as supported them in audition preparation for further education. Many of my pupils have gone on to study at some of the top performing arts establishments in the UK, such as the RWCMD, Guildford and Mountview.
As well as this, I have taught many adult learners, some who are just starting out and have always wanted to learn to sing, some who are reigniting a passion from the past, and some who are involved in professional productions and are looking for extra specialist coaching.
Tutoring Approach:
I teach my lessons from my home, and can also offer online tuition.
I believe that when it comes to studying performance and the arts, it is of paramount importance that my pupils are comfortable and are gaining enjoyment from the lessons.
Students will receive bespoke lessons, tailored to their needs. Each student will have the opportunity to share their goals, and lessons will be designed to meet these.
Lessons are relaxed, and students will have a safe and comfortable learning experience in which they can explore all aspects of performance.
I ensure that each lesson is built on from the previous, with clear learning objectives that students will be working towards. Students will not only learn how to sing, but they will learn how the voice works, and how to keep it healthy. Music theory and performance coaching will also be included in their lessons to deepen their understands of the performing arts as a whole.
