Personal Description:

I was in choirs all through primary and secondary school, and played lead and ensemble roles in musical theatre shows for 4 years. I developed a lot of my musical skills at university, including arranging, transcription, songwriting, and employability and leadership, and I also performed and improvised in genres such as pop, rock, acoustic, jazz, soul and musical theatre. For my dissertation I arranged covers of popular songs of various genres for a seven-piece jazz band.

With a BMus in Popular Music and a grade 8 distinction in musical theatre, I have gained enough experience and knowledge to teach people of all ages and vocal ranges confidently using techniques that are easy to understand. Feel free to contact me for further details.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been tutoring in singing and music theory since July 2016, and I also lead a secondary school choir. My teaching experience before committing to tutoring was mainly with young children, as a classroom and teaching assistant in a primary school. I worked in various classrooms for children aged 3-8 years old, where I showed leadership and kept an authoritative but friendly role in the environment.

I feel that a good teacher breaks down the barrier of authority between them and the student, so my approach to tutoring is very informal and casual. The most important thing to me is making you feel comfortable in our lessons.

Tutoring Approach:

My first session with you won't involve much coaching, as this will mainly be about me getting to know you and your voice, what you want to get out of our lessons together, if you want to enter exams, etc. This 1-hour session will cost just £10, and from there, regular rates will depend on your age - adults at £20/h, under 13s at £15/h. The Musicians' Union recommends teachers charge £33/h so this is a very substantial saving.

I have made the spare room in my flat a designated music room. I have plenty of sheet music other resources (piano and acoustic guitar and access to backing tracks online), and I'm happy to provide you with your own copies of material for additional fees. It is completely up to you what songs you want to learn, but please give notice before a lesson to allow for preparation.

If distance means getting to the flat is a problem, I am also able to provide online sessions via Skype, and take payment via online banking.

Looking for the perfect present for a budding singer? Why not buy a few lessons in bulk to get them started? I send out vouchers in the post for something for them to unwrap, and take payment via online banking.
