Personal Description:
I have been a music educator for the past five years and offer tuition in both guitar and bass. I have a warm, relaxing manner and believe each student has a personal journey through music and requires their own unique approach.
I myself come from a classical background and throughout my career have progressed into all forms of contemporary music. Helping students find their own voice through studying music is a the very essence of my approach as an educator, as it is something that will carry over to all aspects of their lives.
Tutoring Experience:
Secondary School – I currently work here as a teaching assistant, taking both lunchtime classes tutoring instruments and providing music production for concerts.
Primary Schools – Here I taught very practical approaches to musical theory, allowing students to explore the essence of music through composition. I also taught musical arrangement in their after-school steel pan orchestra. These were some of the most rewarding and effective lessons.
Foyle Down Syndrome Trust – I worked with the trust regularly as part of their music therapy classes. These classes help its members cope with stress improve as well as improve their cognitive ability and self esteem.
Private tuition – I tutor both guitar and bass weekly.
Tutoring Approach:
I believe students should be taught music through the kinds of music they already enjoy. While lessons are based on a technical understanding of their instrument and a theoretical understanding of music, these will only be employed to expand the ability of a student and make their playing that much more rewarding. We will play music together regularly and students will be encouraged to make mistakes and explore their instrument, allowing them to find their own unique voice.
