Personal Description:

Hi! My names Ryan and I've been playing guitar for over 13 years, both as a hobby and professionally. I've always been obsessed with music, the way it sounds, how it's constructed and ultimately how it makes me feel. Although I took on occasional lessons in my youth, I've always strived myself on the fact I'm a self taught guitarist, which has given me a unique and personal approach to learning my instrument. When I wanted to take my abilities to the next level, I inducted in The Academy of Contemporary music at the age of 18, which the likes of Matt Healey and Ed Sheeran has graced its presence. Here, I gained experience from some of the industries leading professionals, which gave me an insight into the professional world and helped me develop my music theory knowledge and skills in both working with other musicians and teaching. Since graduating in 2019 with my BA Hons, I've been lucky enough to be a part of various projects as a session guitarist, which includes writing, recording and performing with other musicians and artists.

Tutoring Experience:

During my degree I gave one on one lessons to other musicians in my field, where guitar wasn't their main instrument. As these individuals already had a grasp on music and music theory, this brought on the need to develop a teaching style which branched their pre-existing knowledge and apply it to a separate instrument. On the flip side of this, since graduating I've took on other students who are both beginners in every way and also students who are more developed and looking to advance that next step. Teaching someone something new, no matter the content, has always been a very gratifying thing that I've always loved. Everyone is constantly learning on their journey with music and being that person to introduce them to a new idea is something I'll always be grateful for.

Tutoring Approach:

As a self taught guitarist and musician who then went on to study a degree in that field, my approach to music tuition has always been very broad and applicable. Everyone learns things differently and no one takes in information the same way, my belief is to always base the lesson around the students needs and develop the content to help them progress in the most comfortable and efficient way. Music is a big world and not everyone likes to navigate it the exact same way, at the same pace. My experience and dependance as a self taught guitarist has allowed my feel when playing and my ear whilst listening to develop more than learning the traditional way, and with the additional knowledge and experience of developing my craft at a degree level, it has made me a well rounded guitarist, musician and teacher.
