Personal Description:

I'm a professional singer-songwriter, multi-instrumentalist and music tutor. I've been tutoring one to one since 2006, teaching students of all ages and abilities.

I am also a trained Music Teacher, holding a PGCE in Music Secondary as well as a BA (Hons), Silver Arts Award, Grade 5 Classical Singing and Grade 7 Music Theory. Although I have music grades I do not teach them as my teaching method is to focus on songs/pieces that my students want to learn, developing skills as we go. This doesn't mean that you'll only be able to play one song perfectly but rather the skills you learn in one song will lead you onto others.

I have been quoted as being “the Bob Ross of music tuition” and I feel that probably sums me up quite well! I’m friendly, not strict and I embrace mistakes, as we can always learn from them.

I can provide lessons online via Skype or from my home in North Devon.

I have a quiet and calm environment with a variety of instruments and resources on hand for teaching.

With a relaxed approach, I cater all my lessons to the individual and try to get to know and understand each student and what it is they want to achieve and what songs they'd like to learn.

I like to encourage my students to work with their abilities rather than against them. For example, if you have reduced mobility in your thumb and you're learning a fretted instrument with me I'm not going to force you to put it behind the neck of the instrument if it hurts. Rather, we would find a compromise which would allow you to achieve the same sound with a different shape.
