Information About Romy - Glasgow teacher

Personal Description:

I'm a teacher, composer and performer focused on the lever harp or clarsach. I graduated from the Royal Conservatoire of Scotland in 2019 with first class honours, and in 2021, I got awarded second place and the audience award in the World Harp Competition. I also was a semi-finalist in the BBC's Young Traditional Musician of the Year competition.

I have been teaching privately and in a college setting since graduating, for teenagers and adults of all skill levels, in all genres ranging from traditional to contemporary to classical. It's very important for me to create a relaxed and friendly learning environment where students feel comfortable experimenting, and develop a healthy music mindset.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching both privately at all levels and in a degree-level college environment since 2019. I've taught for Glasgow Harp Bazaar, the Clarsach Society, International Harp Friends Meeting, and Scottish Culture and Traditions, for pupils of all abilities and even across language barriers!

Tutoring Approach:

For me, it's very important to find joy in making music, in whichever way suits the student - we'll build a curriculum together to fit your tastes and interests. Many of my teaching materials are tailor-made, meaning I make arrangements to suit your personal level and goals (I take requests!). I'm also able to work from graded exam syllabuses such as ABRSM or Traditional Music Graded Exams.

I love to teach music creativity and artistry, and encourage all my students to engage creatively with playing music. This ranges from adding a personal touch to a performance, to learning to make your first arrangement, all the way to developing a professional-level style and identity as an artist or composer.

I normally teach teenagers and adults as I have found my teaching philosophy and style best suits them, but please be in touch if you think I'd be a good fit for a younger person!
