Personal Description:

I'm Robbie, I have a BA(Hons) in music from the University of York and have worked for the last three years as a freelance musician in London and previously in Manchester. My work has included singing, conducting, workshopping and private tuition. As a singer I have experience in pop, musical theatre, jazz, choral and operatic singing and have travelled the world with performance. Despite now working primarily as a singer, I grew up as a first study pianist and still play whenever I get the chance.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught piano, singing and music theory for the last three years - both children and adults. I have led workshops in primary and secondary schools teaching songs and inspiring children to use their voices. As a conductor, I have led many amateur ensembles including orchestras and choirs teaching tricks to performing, reading and generally approaching music; using their instrument or voice.

I am happy to teach hour, half-hour, 3/4-hour lessons or longer. Usual rates will be applied.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe anyone can learn to any standard they wish if they are prepared to put in the work and am not afraid to make it clear if I think they are not putting that work in. I like to encourage an all-round understanding of music and if requested, take opportunities to explain things beyond what is required. I believe this solid grounding is the best way for a pupil to learn as it inspires a passion for learning which is ultimately what every teacher wants from their pupils!
