Personal Description:

I am a full time musician and tutor, performing piano and guitar for a variety of projects and at venues including Glastonbury Festival, the Wales Millennium Centre and the National Museum Wales. I also compose for theatre and film, as well as providing arrangements and orchestrations for several well-known artists, including a recent Classical Number 1 album!

I've been teaching piano (and, on occasion, guitar) to children and adults for around three years and have enjoyed seeing all my tutees progress over time!

I graduated from Cardiff University with a BA First Class Honours in Music and English Literature, also winning the prize for highest first year results in the School Of Humanities.

Tutoring Experience:

I started formally tutoring two years ago and have received a high number of positive testimonials for my work over this time. I have also previously worked on a variety of amateur music projects where clear communication and teaching of material was an essential part of my role.

Tutoring Approach:

As a piano tutor I avoid adopting a 'one size fits all' approach and will shape my lessons to meet the requirements and learning style of the student. Whether grades, enjoyment, classical, pop or jazz (to name a few options!) is the goal, the tutee - or the parent of the tutee - will have an influence over the direction of lessons.

Not only can I help the student develop a well rounded approach to their music exams and the constituent parts of this, but also can endeavour to teach skills that are often undervalued by formal music courses, such as playing by ear, improvisation, chordal accompaniments and so on.

I also separately offer music theory tuition where I will aim to communicate my innate understanding of the (often bewildering!) rules of music in the most approachable, engaging way.
