Personal Description:

I am a professional Edinburgh Fringe and West End composer, arranger and lyricist specialising in piano as my instrument. I currently have a core group of students in Edinburgh who I have been teaching for some time now. I have written music for screen and stage and have a passion for sharing the skill of music to anyone who has a passion to learn.

Tutoring Experience:

I have taught piano and composition for many years now. I taught at a London Saturday music school for several years and then took up private tuition in London until moving to Edinburgh.

Recent students have said:

'Robert is a great tutor, and I'm amazed at my progress. He challenges me to play pieces I would never consider, and with his guidance, I find I can master them'

'The piano lessons for my daughter have been wonderful. Practice is a struggle but even with limited amounts of that she has been able to learn a huge amount and has really enjoyed every lesson and the variety of things she is taught'

'Without Robert's tuition there's no chance I would have been able to learn the course in the very short time span that I did. His teaching hours were very flexible and his lessons always catered to exactly what I needed help with. Couldn't recommend him enough!'

'I am very happy to leave a few words for Robert. I have a lesson a week and I’ve feel Robert is a top notch teacher. I’ve learnt a lot in a small amount of time, he’s a very professional person and you can see how seriously he takes his teaching. He has music as a large part of his life - he lives music and that’s important'

Tutoring Approach:

I am a friendly, relaxed and methodical teacher. I have a set curriculum I use to teach learners which is tailored to the goals of the learner I am teaching. I encourage learners to help choose the direction of their lessons whether that be to play a song they enjoy or to get grades or other qualifications.

I tutor face to face at my flat or I widened my lessons to include an online option which works very well and allows me to tutor all around the world whether that be piano or composition. I use Zoom and I have several cameras so you can still benefit from practical tuition despite not being together in person. All I need to see are your hands!
