Personal Description:
Hi, I have 24 years experience as a tutor and nearly 30 years experience as a performer. I've played jazz,rock and classical over the years in many different settings and all these genres are enthusiastically catered for in my teaching programmes. I play regularly in jazz, soul and blues bands and enjoy a healthy balance of performing and teaching.
Tutoring Experience:
I've taught in schools (both state-run and private) and offered private one-to-one tuition for over 20 years. I've also held jazz workshop-style events.
Tutoring Approach:
My teaching approach is thought out very much with the individual in mind. Adults especially, come with very different experiences and expectations of playing music, so this has to be taken into account. Beginners, both adult and child are welcome. Where requested, ABRSM exams are catered for from grade 1 up to Diploma. If you simply want to play some good tunes, that's fine with me, and I also teach improvisation in jazz and blues. I feel that music is for everyone, at all kinds of levels, so this is refelected in my approach to teaching. Lessons are available in 1 hour and 45 minute formats which brings the cost to £40 and £30 respectively. Since March 2020 I have been doing lessons online via Zoom.
