Personal Description:
I have been playing and teaching organ, piano and guitar for over 25 years, in a wide range of churches around the country. I currently am organist and choirmaster at St Andrew's Church, Girton, and lead the Oakington Singers. I gained my CertRCO diploma in 2007, having trained with Kevin Bowyer and Gerard Brooks from the the RCO St Giles Organ School. I enjoys playing in a range of styles from classical to modern.
I also have technical background, having originally studied
Electronics & Music Technology at York University, then worked as a software developer for 15 years in the field of audio and graphics at AMS Neve and Pixel Power.
Tutoring Experience:
Teaching experience
I have ben teaching since 1999, to all ages and abilities.I teach privately from my home in Romsey, Cambridge and in schools around Cambridgeshire, Suffolk and Hertfordshire and schools and privately. In addition to lessons in piano/keyboard/organ/guitar/ukulele/singing, I also can provide ear training and theory/composition classes, and training in computer music packages e.g. Sibelius, Logic Pro, Ableton Live.
Please note my hourly rate on my profile is for 60 minute lessons only as I can’t display rates for shorter lessons.
The fees are normally 20/30/45/60 minutes for £17/22/31/36 respectively for regular lessons every week/fortnight/month. For casual/one off lessons the rate is £20/25/35/40. If you wish to have a lesson at your home there is a travel fee of up to £15 per lesson in and around Cambridge (up to 5 miles) anything further may cost more.
Tutoring Approach:
Lessons are adapted on an individual basis in a friendly and positive manner. I find score reading important, but try to emphasise musicianship and interpretation over just reading the notes.
