Personal Description:
I am a calm, friendly and disciplined musician and music teacher with 17 years guitar experience playing in groups and as a solo musician. I currently and write and play jazz, funk, soul, blues and bossa nova, and have played rock, punk and folk in the past. In July 2014 I was chosen to represent the UK as part of a guitar duo in the festival of street performance, Lisbon, for one week, and have been composing and performing with the groups Mariska Martina, Bandini, Murk FM, Goosebumps, Glow Tide, Held By Tape, Midnyght and Lit FM for the last few years.
I also have been playing the saxophone for 12 years, and have a music theory knowledge of up to and beyond grade 8. I have spent more than 1 year in Brazil too, and therefore have a good knowledge of Brazilian music, such as samba, choro, forro and bossa nova!
I have been home teaching music over London for the past 8 years, using my own method whereby I understand the student's personality and desires and engage with those foremost, whilst also focusing on developing their musical skills to a well-rounded basis
Tutoring Experience:
8 years guitar and composition, 6 years piano, 8 years saxophone and music theory. Taught from age 12-59 in schools and at students' homes.
Tutoring Approach:
My main areas of focus are improvisation and composition, and my philosophy is that the practice of rudimentary knowledge and technique is the gateway to unlocking creative and improvisational freedom. My goal is to awaken natural intuition within the student by carefully ensuring that they understand how and why certain tools in music work. By this, they can unlock the power of self exploration and become self sufficient as musicians, enhancing fulfilment and enjoyment through playing.
