British composer Richard was born in Bedfordshire in 1984 and currently lives in London. His works, which have been described as 'audacious' and 'astounding', often make creative use of the performance space to heighten perception of sound, and thrill the senses. He recently completed a PhD entitled 'Towards a Resonant Theatre' with David Sawer at the Royal Academy of Music. 2015 commissions have come from clarinettist Anna Hashimoto, who premiered Hanamichi for clarinet, CD and large building at the Tokyo City Opera Recital Hall in November last year. In June 2015 Anna gave the UK premiere of Hanamichi and the world premiere of Hikinuki at St John Smith's Square, London, and played extracts live on BBC Radio 3 In Tune. Christina McMaster commissioned and premiered the short effervescent Skylark Machine also at St John's Smith Square, and also played extracts live on Radio 3. She recorded 's ghostly Scenes from a Deserted Jazz Club with trumpeter Jay Phelps for her new album Pinks&Blues available on iTunes. Visioni Simultanee, commissioned by the Finchley Chamber Orchestra, was shortlisted for a 2015 BASCA British Composer Award.
2016 highlights include four works programmed in the Royal Academy of Music's Summer Festival; a tour of 'Drifting Spirits' by the East Anglian Handbell Team, performances in the US (New York, Ohio), Poland, Wales, and the Cheltenham and Harrogate Festivals; new commission for St Paul's Cathedral; and a new work commissioned for a site-specific forest performance with funds from Arts Council England.
