Personal Description:
Greetings! I am a 28 year old music university graduate who is spreading his love for music and expression to the younger generation — I want my pupils to engage with music as a joy and life affirmation to help them understand their place in the wider world.
I have 18 years of playing experience. The last 12 have been a serious commitment to achieving technical and musical mastery of the electric guitar and my acoustic playing has developed alongside this; it began in primary school as a hobby. I am deeply passionate about music due to the immense joy and solace it has brought to my life and I wish to inspire more people to engage with real music and understand its definitive nature in cultures. Learning an instrument is also a great way to improve discipline, effort-reward development, fine motor skills and a general love of the arts.
Tutoring Experience:
Individual and Group class guitar teacher for Richmond Music Trust — November 2017-present.
Assistant to instrument tutors — BandIt Songwriters (February 2018), BandIt! (August 2018)
One-to-one private guitar lessons — August 2014-Present
Individual and Group class guitar teacher for Ealing Music Service — September 2017-July 2018.
Delivery of graded examinations (RSL, RGT, Trinity).
Private guitar lessons to friends and family — 2012-2015.
Teaching module included in my degree.
Tutoring Approach:
My approach to music tuition leans heavily on my own musical journey and so can best be described as a mixture of inspiration, self-empowerment, focus and dedication. I want to make guitar playing accessible for all ages, genders, backgrounds and life stories.
I aim to teach the fundamentals of electric and acoustic guitar to build solid foundations that can be taken in all directions, genres and styles. I include the role of the guitar in ensemble settings and the importance of music vocabulary and theory. I give my students the autonomy to take their playing in whichever direction they like and empower them to decipher the instrument and apply it to their own contexts.
I want to take experienced players to the next level by exploring harmonic arrangements, improving aural skills and effective practice scheduling. I help them develop their musical personalities further by suggested listening and analysing the playing styles of notable guitarists.
From my professional and personal career I am familiar with differentiated learning styles (Kolb) so I am confident I can successfully teach a wide range of students and abilities. My teaching in schools has allowed me to see a variety of personalities and learning types to help me tailor my approach to suit the needs of a variety of students.

I can say he is an excellent teacher who structures his lessons to provide maximum benefit for each individual student.
He truly has a passion for music and is very easy to get along with. The first thing we discussed was my motivation and inspiration behind learning to play the guitar, which was a great way to get started.
I remain motivated to learn and look forward to continue learning from Ricardo in the foreseeable future.
