Personal Description:
I'm an internationally award-winning composer, creative director and producer, lecturer and researcher, teaching GCSE (all exam boards), A-level (all exam boards), piano, composition, theory, aural, history, orchestration, and undergraduate/postgraduate degree courses/modules.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught for the last 25 years, privately as a piano, theory, composition, GCSE, A-level and undergraduate/postgraduate degrees, orchestration, history and musicianship/aural tutor with fellowships/posts at the Royal College of Music, London College of Fashion, London College of Communication, and the University of the Arts London. I have taught children from the age of 4+ up to adults (70+). I teach mainly online.
Tutoring Approach:
I teach and guide each student differently, depending on their experience, commitment and what they wish to achieve - from relaxed music making, casual lessons, or rigorous work for exams, GCSE, A-level, degrees, entry exams, concerts or competitions. I currently teach online and in London.

Phillip was also great at keeping me informed on progress which meant I was confident that the A Level syllabus would be completed in time and that my son would be fully prepared for tackling the exam questions.
Separately Phillip provided support to my daughter who has a learning difficulty and struggles to read music in the conventional way meaning that Phillip had to find an alternative way to teach her.
I have known Phillip for more than 2 years and cannot recommend him highly enough. He is a very calm teacher, very empathetic and understanding and puts a lot of himself into his teaching.
Even though I still have a lot to learn, Philip take the time to adapt and teach step by step. I truly believe I am building good foundations in order to become a better music writer in the future.
Philip is also very passionate, each lesson is captivating and I am always looking forward to it.
You are doing great!! Matthew is really enjoying his lessons and I have every confidence that you are teaching him properly :-)
He regularly updates me about how my son is doing and suggests ways to improve him.
He also informs us about the concerts and musical events that might be interesting for us.
However, what makes him a really great teacher is his passion for music - and teaching it. His enthusiasm and love for what he does is very apparent in each lesson, which makes for a very engaging and rewarding experience.
