Personal Description:
I studied euphonium and trombone at Chethams and the Royal Northern College of music. I have performed with many of the top brass and wind bands in the country and have performed as a soloist in Italy, Holland and Switzerland. I teach any brass instrument from your first note to grade 8 and beyond.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been teaching for ten years in schools and privately. My students have a one hundred percent pass rate for ABRSM exams grades 1 to 8. I teach one to one, group lessons, full class music and instrumental sessions. I have been head of brass at a private music service in Warrington for two years. I am looking for some more private work as four of my former students are now at the Royal Northern College of music and Chethams.
Tutoring Approach:
Adaptability and empathy are key for me. No two students are the same, so the teaching approach must be tailored for each student. Building a strong bond of trust is essential. Setting markers and targets (small medium and long term) are used to guage progress. I like to open up all elements of music to my students (theory, history etc) while teaching so they understand where the music comes from and how it should be played. I am incredibly passionate about teaching and it is something I love to do.

Looking forward to the next lesson
Phil has come into our home and completely captured our boy's attention. They chat. He listens. He makes piano fun and exciting introducing tunes our boy would know rather than straight into Rachmaninov!!! We don't have to cajole our son into practising. He's happy to sit down little and often and practice. Phil has been absolutely brilliant making his visits something our son looks forward to. To say he teaches well is an understatement. His flair and dare I say knack of dealing with our boy and at the same time teaching him is absolutely fabulous !!! Thank you Phil !
His explanations are clear and he is willing to go at the speed of learning you require, manage to make sure you are improving
I would highly recommend Philip as my playing is already improving !
Great guy
