Phil was born in 1966 and studied violin at the Royal Academy of Music with Diana Cummings, obtaining the L.R.A.M. in 1986 and the Professional Certificate of the Royal Academy of Music in 1987.
After a number of years playing professionally in orchestras and chamber groups, including various recordings for EMI, Decca and Mute Records, she moved to Italy where she worked with the Orchestra Arturo Toscanini in Parma.
In 1991 she began dedicating her energies to violin teaching and she founded the violin group for young players called the “Divertimento Academy” in Cremona, Italy which has played and won awards all over Italy, including the E.S.T.A (European String Teachers’ Association) festival in Florence, two years running.
Phil composes specifically for her pupils and violin group, bearing in mind the diverse ages and levels of preparation of all pupils, thus giving everyone the opportunity of making music together.
She produced a CD,“ON THE RED ROCK” in 2001 with her violin group.
Phil is also a renowned soloist (Celtic harp, fiddle and voice), and has given concerts all over Europe.
In August 2008, she opened the Speech and Arts festival of Lefkada, performing for the Greek president, Karoulos Papoulias.
For solo harp and voice she has 5 CDs to her credit, “LAGAN”, “STORIES”, “GOING HOME”, “FAERIES” and “SEASCAPES”.
She is currently playing in a Celtic Duo with Dave Palmley, with whom she has produced 2 CDs “THE VISIT” and “TWIST IN THE TALE”.
Teaching violin since the late Eighties, mainly in Italy.
Phil also ran an award-winning violin group called the Divertimento Academy in Cremona Italy for 20 years.
Phil is a dedicated and experienced violin teacher. She specialises in teaching beginers of all ages.
