Personal Description:

Online Piano Lessons!

I am a friendly and naturally encouraging teacher. I passed my Grade 8 piano exam in school and continued to study piano performance alongside composition at the University of Surrey.

Since school closures due to Covid I have developed a successful model for interactive online lessons using Zoom. I have a dual camera setup where one camera can see my face and the other can see the piano keys from above, which is useful for showing fingerings and techniques. I am able to share my screen with my students allowing me to point at specific parts of the notation while discussing the music theory. For absolute beginners I like to work from books but a lot of the music I use is also pieces I have found or written out that I send to students to print before their lesson. For students that need a little bit more visual help between lessons I often make a video of myself playing their piece at the end of every lesson so they have that as a reference throughout the week.

I am DBS checked for my work in schools and registered on the update service.

Tutoring Experience:

I've been teaching full time in schools for the last three years so I have a lot of experience teaching students ranging from absolute beginners up to Grade 8 level and have coached many students through grade exams. Being a singer and songwriter myself I also love to teach pop music performance and composition.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe it is very important to learn music you want to learn so I base my lessons around each individual students preferences while taking into account their strengths and weaknesses and what specific aspects of their playing will benefit most from special attention. Grades can be a great way to inspire and challenge students but I don't consider them essential - as long as a student is inspired to practice at home every week then swift progress will surely follow!
