Personal Description:

I am fully qualified to teach guitar, holding the ALCM (TD) diploma from The London College of Music. This qualification thoroughly examined my ability to teach from beginner through to advanced levels.

I fell in love with guitar the first time I heard legendary guitarist Julian Bream playing classical guitar when I was a teenager. I was mesmerised by the guitar's beautiful tones, as well as how one person could sound as though two or more people were playing at the same time.

I specialise in teaching classical guitar technique (plucking and strumming with fingers), which can be applied to many styles of music, including: Renaissance and Baroque, Spanish, South American, Jazz, Blues, Rock and Pop, World music and more.

I recommend weekly 30 minute lessons for children, which I have found is the perfect amount of time to maximise progress, enjoyment and concentration levels. For adults, I tailor lesson length and frequency to suit individual preferences.

I offer an initial 30 minute lesson free of charge.

In my role teaching at St John's School, I am continuously DBS/CRB checked. I can also supply the paperwork completed by the school for my initial check.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching guitar for over 20 years. I teach private students and also at St John's School, Northwood.

I love seeing people learn guitar for the pure joy of music. Also, students of mine have won every category of the Watford Festival, as well as gained music scholarship places to Grammar schools and University.

I enjoy teaching students of all ages from 7 years old onwards.

Tutoring Approach:

My teaching style is friendly and structured, with clearly defined paths for students to maximise their ability. I approach each student as an individual and enjoy helping people develop their unique musical passions.

I very much believe in the music Grade exams, which provide a well organised course for progression. They also motivate and reward students. I am also more than happy to teach people who don't want to take exams.
