Personal Description:

Professionally renown qualified Teacher with 13 + years experience teaching guitar and also T.E.F.L/ T.E.S.O.L in and around the West Midlands areas. Mostly focusing on teaching guitar at the moment preparing and developing teaching resources both online; and also offline, for both students and also tutors alike.

Whilst I was a child back in the mid 70's I took an interest in my uncles guitar which leant against the lounge wall begging to be played. Like a budding pop star, I picked it up and started to play on it. Of course, not playing very well… Anyway that's as far as the guitar interest stood for a while (for about 20 years) until I started to attend a church. I then took a renewed interest in the music scene again (inspired and influenced by Status Quo, Eagles, Genesis etc.- 1980's bands) and then joined the music group within the local church. I then taught myself the guitar (spanish, lead and electric acoustic) and before long, was the main guitarist in the music group and taugh others so they could play.

Tutoring Experience:

I began guitar tuition in 1997, to a few folk (adults and children) in the church that I was attending, helping them to cover the essentials and rudiments of guitar through basic to intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**ssons. (I always believe that if a young person or individual showed an interest in any particular area that it should be encouraged - if it's within your means to do so).

In 2003, I travelled to China to pursue a teaching career thus; working in schools from mixed abilities, from a diverse range of ages: children and adults alike. A couple of times having to take teaching lessons in the local parks to the locals!

Since then, after coming back to the UK I began further expanding and teaching others not just in guitar workshops but also other mainstream subjects such as English Language, I.T. Computer skills, and also recently photography.

Later, I then expanded to teach other communities and people from such countries as: Iran, Japan, Lithuania, Spain and Muscat.and I.T; and now teaching individuals from China, Japan, Spanish Lithuanian (and also British folk who needed help with reading writing and spelling :- dyslexia). Additionally, I also work when time allows for a support worker for a well known charity supporting homeless people. This entails augmenting support plans and training schemes and ILP, within the project, to promote independent living. This involved implementing a classroom based I.T / course called 'Computers Don't Byte' for those without computer experience or for those wishing to advance further into the IT field.

I mainly teach within Birmingham City Centre, but can travel within a reasonable distance should you require one to one tuition at a nearby town.

(Transportation fees are payable/ re-reimbursable by the students, in addition to lessons)

N.B Please contact me if more than one person will be attending class as I can offer discounts.- usually 10% off, per student.

Tutoring Approach:

APPROACH:

I have a hands on approach to teaching, right from the offset encouraging students to experience interaction through practice and having reference material, starter videos, music, and also one to one.

I understand and empathise all too well, what it feels like picking up the guitar for the first time and the amount of perseverance, time and dedication you need from the offset. In my tutorials, you can benefit from my experience and your gradual studying will equip you with the knowledge to enjoy the guitar from day one. There’s loads of free content and videos on my website of which, you’ll find very useful.

I have been teaching guitar to individuals for a long time now, in between doing loads of other things and it’s such a pleasure to teach others through an immersive and intuitive learning process.I have an enormous patience threshold and explain things in layman’s terms; as it’s easier for students to understand. – especially true; I find, from replies, from student ‘newbies’ who don’t really know anything, from one end of the guitar to the other whom I have taught.

I always try to wri**Contact Detail Removed**sson plans around the individuals; but working with a curriculum focusing on weaker areas and helping to develop them into their strengths.

IN THE FIRST LESSON AND BEYOND: we'll cover many things so you can appreciate your instrument :

We'll discover the string order, how to tune the guitar, terminology and parts of the guitar, how to hold the guitar, looking after your instrument, a little music theory to equip you so you can practice with something at home until your next lesson and a few basic chords to get started (so you can be enthused and equipped to practice at home a little while fingers develop) And then, later in lessons looking at notes, more chords, rhythms and much more besides .

I try and cover many styles of playing the guitar from rock, blues, country, pop, improvision, so you can have a general over-view and build your own favourite style. We'll also cover Trinity grade 1 materials for those interested in taking grade 1 exams.
