Personal Description:
About yourself
Hi, I’m Peter and I own and Run the Rock & Rhythm Music School.
As a multi-instrumentalist with over 35 years of playing experience and over 15 years teaching experience, teaching music is my passion, it’s a full-time occupation and the best job I’ve ever had.
I'm a certified Drumsense Master tutor and an RGT registered guitar tutor and every week research and develop fresh material for my students.
I have an Enhanced DBS certificate and Public Liability Insurance through my Musicians Union membership.
My musical experience spans a wide variety of styles such as Rock, Roots Reggae, Indie, Jazz Funk, Blues, Pop, Soul, Swing. All through the years my enthusiasm for music is still as strong as is my love of seeing someone realise their dream of learning to play an instrument.
Tutoring Experience:
I have been running a busy private teaching practise for 15 years and I have of pupils from a diverse range of backgrounds of all ages from pre-school children to retired adults. All my students learn for pleasure but I've helped many of them gain the confidence to start or join a band, take part in school performances or music exams and some have gone on to complete Diploma courses or music degrees.
Tutoring Approach:
I teach from a purpose built studio and offer one to one lessons in person or via Skype.
Lessons are at the student’s own pace and mindful of the fact that each student learns differently and will want to cover a unique mix of topics.
My approach, regardless of the instrument is that students should learn to play musically. This means to learn to play with empathy for the song, band members and the audience too! So, we learn to listen, learn to tune into the melody of the sounds and rhythms we can make. Further on we can be more concerned with sight reading and technical excellence.
My aim is for every student to be able to play a simple melody or musical phrase or even a song by the end of the first lesson.
I cover Rock, Pop, Blues, Funk, Jazz and World Music styles developing the use of sound techniques and reading skills as we continue the journey.
I also supplement lessons by accompanying on Guitar, Piano or Drums as needed as well as using a wide variety of backing tracks.
