Personal Description:

I teach violin, acoustic, electric and bass guitar, ukulele and bass ukulele, mandolin, tenor banjo, and melodeon (a button keyed accordeon) at my home or, if you prefer, over the Internet. If you want guitar or uke, you don't need to read music and I already have over 2,400 songs of all types already written and chorded out, ready to go. If you want to learn a melody instrument, you can learn to read music quickly with me, or I'll show you how to play by ear or from TAB. I now offer lessons ONLINE, so it doesn't matter where you live, or face to face at my home.

Tutoring Experience:

I have been giving music lessons on a paid basis for 20 years, and also conducted music workshops at Folk Festivals for many years.

Tutoring Approach:

I do not teach for Grades or music exams. Each pupil is free to progress at his or her own speed. For guitar & uke, the basis of most styles is learning to play chords, although I can teach guitar fingerpicking styles like clawhammer as well, but not classical guitar. For fiddle, mandolin, tenor banjo & melodeon, learning to read music is a good idea to be able to pick more tunes up - I can teach that at the same time if needed, or teach by ear without it. People say that I am enthusiastic about music. Parents are free to sit in the music room or next door. I have successfully taught from 8 year olds to 78 year olds, and many skill levels from complete beginners upwards.
