Information About Paula - Manchester teacher

Personal Description:

Hi there! My name is Paula, and I am a professional musician based in Manchester. I studied at The Royal Northern College of Music, and was awarded a First Class Honours Degree. During my studies, I chose to study instrumental teaching as an elective which allowed me to specialise in teaching violin and viola whilst also gaining performance experience. I was Principal Viola in several Ensembles during my time at the RNCM, and now perform weekly across the North West in a professional string quartet. Alongside classical performance, I also perform in an alternative folk band called Pavey Ark. My time in this band has included recording two albums and performing at the very prestigious Glastonbury Festival.

Tutoring Experience:

I started teaching early on in my career, and have taught people of all ages and abilities. This year, I was a student tutor at The National Children's Orchestra: Project North, which consisted of me shadowing the senior tutor and running sectional rehearsals with children aged 8-12.

Tutoring Approach:

My approach to music tuition has an emphasis on flexibility. Every single student has different needs that cannot be met with a rigid approach. I aim to create a welcoming and engaging environment for all students, whilst regularly checking in with them to ensure their needs are being met. When I meet a new student, I will ask for them to tell me their 3 main goals for the next year of music making. I will take these goals into account and work with the student to create a tailored plan that will help them improve their playing as well as general musicianship. This plan can include any repertoire they wish to cover, any technical aspects of their playing they wish to work on, or graded exams they wish to take.
