Personal Description:

Guitar Teacher with over 36 years Guitar teaching experience based in the Slough, Windsor, Maidenhead area. Established guitar teaching business in early February 1986. I currently live and work in Cippenham, Slough from a private purpose-built teaching facility.

Tutoring Experience:

I established my guitar teaching business in February 1986. From that time to the present, I have taught many students of all age ranges (typically from 6 years old to 60+, male and female, teaching absolute beginners to advanced players, using a wide variety of musical styles and techniques. Although I mainly prefer to teach one-to-one, I am also quite comfortable teaching groups of people of up to around 15 students per class. I have also taught regularly in both state run and private local schools as a private visiting guitar tutor (Schools where I have previously taught include - James Elliman School (Slough), Burnham Grammar and Maltmans Green (Gerrards Cross). I have also worked as a guitar teacher for the Bucks County Council as an Adult Education Tutor, and have helped set up and taught Guitar and lectured to various groups of guitar students at Microsoft (UK) in Reading. I also worked for Mars (Slough) teaching Guitar to some their staff as part of the company's team-building.

Tutoring Approach:

I currently teach Weekdays (11.00am - 7.30pm) and Saturday mornings (10.00am - 1.00pm). Students can be complete beginners as well as those who already have some level of experience playing Guitar. It is important that I meet each student at their point of need, so I always spend the initial lesson listening, discussing their motivations and needs and watching them play (if they already play) in order to make a thorough assessment of their current ability levels and in order to create an effective teaching plan for each new student. Learning to play the guitar with me will be a combination of what motivates you (i.e. what you would like to learn, and what you may be aiming for) and what you will need to learn to achieve those goals and to reach a certain standard. As a teacher I have to carefully apply both aspects in order to help you maintain your interest and enthusiasm for the short, medium and hopefully long-term. Based on the three foundations of melody, harmony and rhythm and combining both the practical and the theoretical (according to the student's ability and goals) I will help each student navigate a pathway towards their goals. Every student should have the opportunity to become the best that they can be on the Guitar, their chosen instrument. I teach a variety of musical styles to suit all musical tastes including Classical Guitar, Traditinal Folk, Country, Rock 'n' Roll, Ragtime, Jazz (including Gysy Jazz) , Lead and Rhythm Electric Blues, plus various Pop and Rock guitar style and techniques. I also teach Bass Guitar to upper Intermedia**Contact Detail Removed**vel. Finally, students can come and learn on a casual basis (i.e. just for Fun), but I would encourage students to work towards achieving a guitar grade in either Classical Guitar or the modern 'Rock School' guitar grades currently available. Over the years, I have helped to prepare various students for their graded exams, preparing others for their GCSE Music exams, as well as helping still others achieve musical scholarships at their chosen universities. Learning guitar should and can be a most rewarding and fulfilling experience - my job is to make that a reality for each of my students and doing so makes it all so worthwhile …
