Information About Owen - Leeds teacher

Personal Description:

Hello! My name is Owen and I'm a professional multi-instrumentalist musician, born in Leicestershire, living in Leeds. I have been singing and drumming from an early age, having achieved a grade 8 distinction in drums when I was just 14 years old and grade 8 distinction in vocals at 18 years old.
I have performed around the UK and abroad in various outfits since I was 11 and have gone on to tour the US and Caribbean on Royal Caribbean Cruise - The Anthem of the Seas - as a guest entertainer, singing and drumming.
I'm currently performing both covers and originals gigs around the UK as a solo artist (singing guitarist), as a duo (Cajon player and singer) and in a three-piece (singing drummer).
I am a recent graduate of Leeds Conservatoire having studied Music for 3 years. This has further developed my musicianship, song-writing and production skills along with collaborative and communication techniques. This has given me the vital tools needed as a musician, collaborator and teacher to positively put ideas across in an engaging manor.
I have a great enthusiasm and passion for music that I put into every performance and encourage people of all abilities and ages to explore their musical intuition and the joy that comes with it.

Tutoring Experience:

I have over 6 years experience teaching drums, starting at Ashby Academy of Rock before privately tutoring students, advancing my students proficiency in a manor that suits them and their goals. Taking several students through grade pieces and popular songs, implementing the core techniques and rudiments that underpin great performance, giving them transferrable musicianship skills.
I have been providing popular vocals tuition for 3 years, having been tutored myself by world class vocal coaches, I know the importance of optimal technique, expression and enjoyment with singing. I use my own experience with technique, theory, exercises and a catalogue of ideal songs for improving range and ability to advance my students to the next level and increase their confidence, regardless of their current ability.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe that every individual has their own way of learning and I adapt to each person and tailor my approach to teaching in a way that suits them. I found through my own tuition that I best learned music through imitation, and took a lot from watching and listening to my teachers perform certain sections/passages before I attempted them. However, I am aware that some people are better at playing from reading or explanation of technique. These are all valid and should be considered for each student.
The most important part of learning any music to me is making it enjoyable. That is why I place great emphasis on teaching music that my students love and want to learn. Whether they're interested in learning graded pieces or progressing through their favourite popular songs, I have found that my students advance faster when they're performing songs they love and thus are more likely to spend time practicing.
