Personal Description:

"TEACHING INTRO VIDEO" **Removed By Admin**

I've recently graduated from the Royal Welsh College of Music in 2020 with a Masters degree in Jazz. Under the tuition of Steve Waterman, Paula Gardiner, Huw Warren, Iain Ballamy and Ant Law to name a few. During this time I performed regularly at the weekly College's Jazz Time events and gigged at a variety of locations throughout Cardiff with my band Ollie and Friends.

I am able to organise trumpet hire for those without a trumpet.

I am experienced in Jazz and Classical trumpet styles, my performance opportunities include: recording at Abbey Road Studios, performing live on ITV's "This Morning", performed with functions bands at the English Heritage Festival, guest soloist at private functions, Street Orchestra of London and many more.

Tutoring Experience:

I have had a variety of students come and and go since studying at university. My current students are a variety of different ages, the youngest of nine years old and the oldest at fifty years old. For both these students I was able to organise with trumpet hire if you're without a trumpet.

I tailor my teaching towards the individual and develop strategies for my students to firstly become stronger musicians, but also to overcome their either technical or musical boundaries. For example, introducing the students to alternative approaches to overcome the technical and physical aspects of playing the trumpet, alongside introducing the students to listen to an array of music and musicians to overcome and broaden their musical boundaries.

I currently teach my students in person and via Zoom call, for those unable to meet in person.

Tutoring Approach:

My most recent beginner students, whom I began teaching at the start of November 2020, were are able to play, read and perform basic carols in time for Christmas.

This organic and upwards progression is not only such a rewarding feeling for both the students and I, but also a sign that great teaching can be channeled through one persons experience to another. I believe a great teacher in any subject can be the defining factor in anyone's learning and that it's not just the student who makes the end finished product. I have had a range of different teachers through my education, like many others, I do remember the memorable teachers because they were ideal teachers for me and connected to my way of learning through different means and methods.

After experiencing this, I channel my previous memorable teachers approaches within my own teaching. My most recent teacher took me from undergraduate to postgraduate study after I told him that furthering my education was the next important step in my long term plan as a musician, from when I first made the plan after leaving sixth form.

He went out of his way to teach me what I needed to know and what the conservatoires would be looking for. I carried on learning with this teacher throughout post graduate study and still keep in touch today. Everyday, I admired his abundant dedication to push me to the next level after I openly explained to him how much this meant to me.

This act of has stayed with me and developed me into the musician I am today, furthering my knowledge and understanding of true musicianship as a tutor and taught me what I need to pass onto my current and future students.
