Personal Description:

I am a freelance singer who graduated from the University of Oxford 3 years ago with a BA in Music.

Tutoring Experience:

I have had great success teaching children (up to 15) Grade 5 theory for a number of years. I have a different way of explaining certain elements of the paper which some pupils have previously struggled with, and have a 100% success rate. I also have experience with singing teaching to a slightly older age group, mainly to boys who voices have broken in the last two or three years.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe music theory can be made fun by applying it to the music which the pupil is actually learning, and also makes it easier to understand. Grade 5 especially is seen as a hoop which has to be got through in order to continue instrumental examinations, but it can also, if taught properly, help further study and improve later examination results. The teenage years are very important for singers, and it is important at this stage to develop a solid technique, but also that singing is fun. I believe my experience in teaching can apply equally to older pupils who wish to develop thair voice.
