Personal Description:
I am a professional composer, lecturer and teacher of music based in Leeds who gives one to one tuition in music theory, composition, songwriting, and aural training. I am also a viola player and play regularly with a variety of ensembles from folk/rock and improvised musics to contemporary classical styles. I currently direct a contemporary music ensemble at Heart in Headingley.
Tutoring Experience:
I have taught music to all ages and levels, having taught at Yorkshire College of Music and Leeds Grammar School for many years before embarking on a part-time lecturing career at the Universities of Huddersfield and Leeds. I am currently a part-time senior lecturer in music at Leeds College of Music and compose and give private tuition at home in Kirkstall, Leeds.
Tutoring Approach:
I adapt to students' needs and interests and approach my teaching with the students' enthusiasms at the centre. Having performed and composed in a variety of musical styles from classical to jazz and popular styles I am open minded and able to communicate in ways that suit the musical styles studied. I enjoy teaching a range of ages and levels and am happy to discuss students' needs before lessons start.
