Personal Description:
I’m an experienced music teacher and working musician based in Cardiff, offering lessons in piano, organ, singing (classical and musical theatre), and music theory. I teach both children and adults, and aim to make lessons clear, focussed, and suited to each student’s goals and learning needs. Most importantly, I strive to make lessons enjoyable and fun!
Alongside teaching, I’m the Director of Music and Organist at a parish church with a busy music programme. I rehearse and direct both the children and adult choirs, and play the organ for a full schedule of choral services throughout the year. I also organise the yearly Music Festival where my students have the opportunity to perform in the Student Showcase performance.
My experience as both a teacher and performer helps me to support students in building reliable technique, musical understanding, and lasting confidence.
Tutoring Experience:
I’ve been an active musician in South Wales since 2012 and have taught private music lessons since 2017, working full-time since 2018 with students of all ages and abilities. I teach piano, organ, singing, and music theory, from beginner to diploma level. I prepare students for ABRSM, MTB and LCME examinations and maintain a 100% exam pass rate. I also teach students who prefer not to take exams, helping them make clear progress through well-structured, enjoyable lessons.
I have a BMus from Cardiff University and a PGCE in Secondary Music from Cardiff Metropolitan University. I’ve taught in schools and private settings, and my work as a church musician includes training adult singers and around a dozen choristers aged between 7-16.
Tutoring Approach:
I firmly believe that music lessons should be fun and accessible to all. I aim to create lessons that are well structured and tailored to each student. I strive to create a supportive learning environment, where students feel comfortable and confident. Whether working towards exams or learning for enjoyment, my focus is on steady progress, building strong musical foundations, and developing confidence.
I encourage students to take exams and prepare them thoroughly for all elements of their chosen exam board. There’s no pressure to follow the exam route – and I support non-exam learners equally. The aim is always the same: to support consistent progress, meaningful musical development, and having fun exploring music!
