Personal Description:

I am an experienced professional oboist and teacher. For a number of years, I was the principal oboe of the KZN Philharmonic Orchestra in Durban, South Africa, having also held the same position at the Alba Regia Symphony Orchestra in Hungary. Having recently moved back to the UK, I perform with a number of different ensembles here too.
Alongside my performing career, I have also been teaching the oboe privately during this time. My students have ranged from complete beginners to conservatoire students, and from children to adults. I enjoy passing on my passion for music to others and helping students to achieve their goals and full potential.  I am happy to prepare students for ABRSM/Trinity exams, conservatoire entrance auditions and coaching on orchestral repertoire. In addition, I can assist students with their reeds and teach reedmaking too for those interested. I currently have spaces for some new students and look forward to hearing from you. 

Tutoring Experience:

I have been teaching the oboe privately for a number of years. My students have ranged from complete beginners to conservatoire level students, and I have experience of teaching both children and adults. In addition, I have given oboe masterclasses to conservatoire students, most recently at the Royal Irish Academy of Music. I have prepared students for exams, performances and auditions.
As well as being an oboe teacher, I am also a CELTA-certified EFL teacher, so I have a broad range of teaching experience.

Tutoring Approach:

I believe every student is unique and so is my approach to each one. I can prepare you for ABRSM/Trinity exams (through all of the grades, or only some). With plenty of orchestral performance experience, I enjoy coaching for youth orchestra/amateur orchestra auditions and helping students to prepare the repertoire. For those wishing to pursue the oboe as a future career, I can also prepare you for conservatoire entrance auditions. If you are looking for a more relaxed environment, we can also structure lessons to include the fundamentals of technique with a strong emphasis on learning repertoire that interests you - whether that is the standard oboe repertoire, film music or popular music. I am happy to adjust students' reeds or to teach reedmaking to those who are also interested in this aspect of the oboe.
