This is how 3 referees rated Monique:
I am a classically trained pianist, qualified piano teacher and violinist, with a passion for teaching these instruments. I am a Licentiate of the Trinity College London, with a Diploma in Piano, a BA Hons degree and Postgraduate Certificate in Music. I live in Bristol.
I began piano at 4 years of age, achieving the ABRSM Grades, continuing my piano studies with Catherine Miller who taught the keyboard specialists at The Wells Cathedral School. My journey with the violin began when I was 9 following a fascination with watching the movement of the bow over the strings! I started with small group lessons and soon progressed to individual lessons with Mary Carson and later with Anne Hirsch to Grade 8, having gained a full music scholarship.
I regularly attend concerts of all musical genres because I am interested in all styles of music from ancient to experimental and everything in between! In previous years I have collaborated with an artist, composing music for a marionette ballet, written songs whilst involved in the project 'Ocean Fire', worked as an accompanist for singers and ballet school, ballet, tap and modern dance, Bristol School of Dancing and Eurythmy movement classes for St Christopher's School, Bristol and The Shelling School in South Gloucestershire.
I have been a violinist in several orchestras, ranging from full symphony to chamber, popular and contemporary music and have been involved in projects with a folk-rock band. Additionally I have enjoyed doing studio work, performances and recording with singer songwriters and at Film City, Bollywood.
I have over 12 years experience in teaching piano and 5 years teaching violin. I have taught children from as young as 4 years through to adults of all ages. I have taught both privately and within a Camphill Community School, previously having had experience in teaching children with special educational needs. My work with young people has included accompanying and coaching in singing, in addition to piano and violin lessons. I have also taken part in outreach educational workshops within the UK.
I offer music theory tuition from beginner to Grade 8 and for general musicianship purposes.
I am experienced, friendly piano teacher for beginner's to advanced and am flexible and passionate about my teaching. I am always looking for new pupils who wish to have a regular commitment but I also offer ad-hoc lessons. I am happy to take pupils of any age and will tailor lessons to suit each individual's learning style. If you wish to take exams, I can prepare you for these. However, if you prefer not to, that is fine, I will set informal goals for you and in either case lessons will be paced according to your own needs and progress.
I use a mixture of approaches and methodologies to get the best learning experience for my pupils.
Those who wish to learn violin will benefit from regular, high quality piano accompaniment which enhances musical enjoyment during the course of music lessons.
I constantly keep abreast of new techniques to keep my pupils motivated and use a creative approach to my teaching.
