This is how 3 referees rated Monique:
I am a classically trained pianist and violinist with a passion for teaching these instruments. I live in Bristol near the Temple Meads train station.
I began piano when I was a small child of 4 years, initially with my elder sister. Subsequently I began individual lessons and continued through the ABRSM Grades to continue my piano studies with Catherine Miller who taught the keyboard specialists at The Wells Cathedral School. My journey with the violin began when I was 9 . I initially wanted to learn the violin because I loved watching the movement of the bow over the strings! I started with small group lessons and soon progressed to individual lessons with Mary Carson and later with Anne Hirsch to Grade 8, having gained a full music scholarship.
I am a licentiate of the Trinity College London.
I initially began teaching many years ago, often visiting pupil's homes as well as offering tuition from my home. I had a break from teaching to pursue other things which have broadened my perspectives and I have now been teaching again for the past year with a renewed passion! I regularly attend concerts of all musical genres because I am interested in all styles of music from ancient to experimental and everything in between! I have collaborated with an artist, composing music for a marionette ballet. In previous years I have written songs whilst involved in the project 'Ocean Fire'. I have previously worked as an accompanist for Bristol School of Dancing, accompanying ballet, tap and modern classes and eurythmy movement classes for St Christopher's School, Bristol and The Shelling School in South Gloucestershire.
I currently play as a violinist in 4 orchestras and a folk-rock band. Additionally I have enjoyed doing studio work and performances, recording with singer songwriters.
I have several years experience in teaching piano and have also been teaching the violin for the past year. I have taught children from as young as 4 years through to adults of all ages. In addition to this I have experience in teaching children with special educational needs and autistic spectrum differences. My work with young people with autistic spectrum differences included accompanying and coaching in singing in addition to piano and violin lessons. I have taught both privately and previously, within a Camphill Community School. I have also taken part in outreach educational workshops within the UK.
I offer music theory lessons to Grade 8 or for general musicianship purposes.
I am experienced, friendly piano teacher for beginner's to advanced. I am always looking for new pupils who wish to have a regular commitment or ad-hoc lessons. I am happy to take pupils of any age and will tailor lessons to suit each individual's learning style. If you wish to take exams in either piano or violin then I can prepare you for these. However, if you prefer not to I will set informal goals for you and in either case lessons will be paced according to your own needs and progress. I am always looking for new pupils who wish to have a regular commitment or ad-hoc lessons.
I use a mixture of approaches and methodologies to get the best learning experience for my pupils.
I have a special programme for young beginner's.
Those who wish to learn violin will benefit from regular, high quality piano accompaniment which enhances musical enjoyment during the course of music lessons.
I constantly keep abreast of new techniques to keep my pupils motivated and use a creative approach to my teaching.
